Special announcement: a personal farewell
#078: The last dance – for me, but maybe not Technopoly.
Olá technopolists,
I'm writing with bittersweet news. After nearly 2 incredible years of creating and sharing this newsletter with you, I’m ending my run as its author.
As some of you may know, I recently accepted a dream job. This new opportunity requires my full attention and means, sadly, I can’t continue writing the newsletter with the quality and consistency it deserves.
Among those I’ve already told, I’ve been flattered to hear the same message: “Technopoly is too good to let die.”
So while I may be leaving, the newsletter doesn't have to end. That’s why Technopoly will be on hiatus while I talk with potential writers and buyers to determine its next steps.
If you're interested in taking over writing or ownership of Technopoly, get in touch. I'd love to speak with anyone interested in ensuring this community continues to thrive. You’ll have my full support from afar.
Creating Technopoly and building this community with you has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. No matter what becomes of it, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come together:
✍🏽 77 editions, 130,000 reads, 91,000 words. If every edition were compiled into a single book, that’s about as long as George Orwell’s 1984.
🌍 ~4,000 subscribers, 93 countries, 36 US states. If our community were a political delegation, we’d represent 78% of global GDP and half of the UN General Assembly.
⚡ Quality. Combined, our readers work at tech companies worth over $8 trillion in market capitalisation, and our investor readers manage a combined $420 billion in AUM.
Your engagement, feedback, and steadfast support have meant the world to me. You’ve truly made this project special, and I feel honoured and humbled.
Although it's time for me to close this chapter, I'd love to stay connected. You can find me on LinkedIn or via email any time. Please keep in touch!
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me.
Abraços,
Simon
What’s the new gig, you ask? I’ll be working in football (soccer) planning for City Football Group, the company behind clubs like Manchester City and NYCFC. Transfers, scouting, and squad planning. Who knows — maybe there’s even a football newsletter in my future. No guarantees, but if that type of content interests you, reply to this email with ‘joga bonito’.
Congrats!!!!
Huge congratulations on both the new job and the platform you built here. Gonna miss my weekly Technopoly! Excited for your next chapter though.
